Program FAQ

  1. I’d like to learn photography. How can I get involved with AbleVoices?

AbleVoices programming is offered to individuals 14 and older. Our foundational course, Photography for Self-Expression (PSE), is required by all participants to take first. Individuals can register for a virtual section offered in the Fall (right after Labor Day) or Spring semester (at the end of January). PSE is a 10 week course and students can use a digital camera or their smart phone. Students view an instructional video and receive a new photo mission each week. The group meets virtually on Google Meet weekly to share, view, and comment on their and each others’ photos. It is a great way to learn new skills, gain a hobby, and make friends! Learn more here and submit the PSE Course Interest Form to get class registration details.

  2. Is Photography for Self-Expression ever offered in-person?

For individuals, we offer one section of in-person PSE each year to local individuals who are not able to participate in the course virtually. If this is the case, please share this when submitting the PSE Course Interest Form. We also offer in-person programming to schools and community organizations (see Question #5).

  3. I participated in the AbleVoices Photography for Self-Expression (PSE) course at my school or community organization. How can I continue to learn photography and participate in AbleVoices?

After taking PSE, participants can join our in-person Photography Club or virtual Photography Club. Participants continue to explore photography to share about themselves in a creative way and enjoy connecting socially with others. Our in-person photography club outings take place at scenic and educational sites throughout Middle Tennessee and participants benefit from a wide variety of community engagement as well.
